Sewer laterals are stubbed to the curb and in some cases where sidewalks exist an "S" is inscribed in the curb.. From the curb developers/property owners are responsibility for installing and maintaining the line to the structure. We do not have information where on private property sewer lines are dug in

The City of Brookings water meets and in most cases, far exceeds all federal and state requirements. About 2,000 tests every year are conducted on the drinking water for water distribution. The City is required to annually produce a Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) which details the water quality and test results. This report is available online and can be mailed to customers upon request..

Brookings water is soft.
Fluoride is found naturally in the water at well below the State and Environmental Protection Agency standards. The maximum contaminant level is 4 MG/L. Recent testing shows non-detected at 0.1 MG/L. We have the capability to add fluoride to the drinking water but we do not do so.
The average Brookings citizen uses about 125 gallons of water per day. Public schools and parks use about 60,000 gallons per day. To meet the City's demand for safe, potable water, the City's Water Treatment Plant treats between 350 to 400 million gallons of water per year, transmitting it through over 26.5 miles of pipe.
First determine if your drain line is clear to the city's main, you may need a plumber to do this.
Once you know your line is clear, during normal work hours (8 am to 5 pm, Monday thru Thursday) call (541) 469-1125; if it is after hours or a weekend call the Police Department at (541) 469-3118 and Public Works will be be called to investigate the blockage.
It is safe if you first check the chlorine level with a chlorine test kit purchased at pet or pool supply stores. Most people let the water stand overnight uncovered before putting it into the tank or fish into the water. This allows the chlorine in the water to dissipate. Check with your pet store for further details about acceptable chlorine levels for your fish.
