SouthXSouthwest, Austin City Limits, festivals on Town Lake are some of Austin's well-known happenings. They have a tug-of-war across the river...south Austin vs north Austin! Austin has tons of disc golf players, as Portland must. Lots of cycling aficionados in both towns.
Heck, have a huge gathering with activities and invite folks from Brookings, SD.
