The City of Brookings will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, May 26 at 1:00 PM for the opening of Chetco Town Center Pocket Park located at 623 Chetco Avenue between Redwood Theater and Compass Rose Café. The City of Brookings entered into a long-term no-cost lease agreement with Pacific Coast Properties, the property owner of the vacant lot, in order to develop the space for use as a public park.
The park was constructed early this year by BK Quality Construction and funded through the Urban Renewal Agency for $160,000. The outdoor, open aired elevated patio space was developed to host small events and to be used by local downtown restaurants and pedestrians for outdoor seating. The space is furnished with picnic tables with umbrellas, flower boxes, trees and trash and recycling receptacles.
