JANELL HOWARD TO RESUME DUTIES AS CITY MANAGER
(Brookings, Oregon) City Manager Janell Howard will resume her duties effective February 1, 2023, after a non-work related theft charge has been resolved and the city council has concluded its investigation and review of the incident.
The City Manager was placed on paid administrative leave on July 8, 2022 while investigation and review of the charges of Theft 3 brought against her were conducted. After an exhaustive review all of the facts and subsequent investigatory information, as well as resolution of the charges on December 30, 2022, the City Council has determined that it is in the best interests of the city for the City Manager to return to her position. Howard will return to her post following the city council approval on January 30, 2023 of a revised employment agreement that better protects the city’s interests in the future.
Mayor Hedenskog, who led the effort on behalf of the council states, “We are looking forward to restoring the team momentum through the organizational and institutional knowledge under the leadership of our City Manager and believe that she should return to work for the City of Brookings. The city council would like to express our thanks to the city staff and department directors, as well as interim city managers Gary Milliman and Christy Wurster for assisting the city in this matter.”
