BROOKINGS WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT
The Brookings City Council has approved a contract to replace an old water main on Buena Vista Loop.
A contract for the $208,707 project was awarded by the City Council at their meeting of October 10 to Tidewater Contractors, Inc. of Brookings.
The existing four-inch main has experienced many line breaks in recent years and is undersized. The old main will be replaced with a new eight-inch main along the entire length of Buena Vista Loop.
“In addition to improving service reliability, this project will improve fire protection in the area,” said City Manager Pro Tem Gary Milliman. “This project has been on the priority list for eight years and we now have sufficient funds to proceed.”
Funding for the project will primarily come from the System Replacement Fee Collected from City water customers as a surcharge on their monthly utility bill. The City received two bids from contractors to do the project; Tidewater submitted the lowest bid.
