Michelle Morosky Appointed City Councilor

The Brookings City Council met in special session, April 19, 2021, and appointed Ron Hedenskog to fill the position of Mayor, after accepting the resignation of Jake Pieper.

Hedenskog, a retired surveyor, has lived in Brookings since 1966 and raised his family here. He is well known in local government, as he has served the City of Brookings in various capacities since 2005.

Hedenskog was appointed to the Brookings Planning Commission in March 2005.  He was elected to City Council in 2006, and appointed Council President in 2008.  Hedenskog was appointed as Mayor in 2012, and elected in 2014, where he served until the end of his second term, January 2017.  In May 2018, he was appointed to Council, and in November 2018 was elected to Council, where he has served until his appointment to Mayor on Monday. “He is the clear choice to lead the City Council”, said Councilor Brad Alcorn prior to the appointment.

Over the years he has served as council liaison or representative for the Border Coast Regional Airport Authority, the Port of Brookings Harbor, the Coos Curry Douglas Business Development Corporation, and Coos Curry Electric Coop.  Hedenskog played an important role in bringing an Emergency Room to Brookings.

After Hedenskog was sworn in, and his Council seat declared vacant, the Brookings City Council appointed Michelle Morosky to serve the remainder of the term for Councilor position #4.  She was previously appointed to the Brookings Planning Commission in January 2020.   Morosky is a local real estate agent, and has served on committees for the Curry County Board of Realtors and the Brookings Elks Lodge, and various school and fundraising committees as a volunteer community member. Morosky is a Brookings native and brings her well-rounded background to the City Council. Council President John McKinney added, “She’s tested, true, and she’s committed to Brookings.”
