This is the time of year many residents are making plans to start a new business; build a garage or shed, remodel or enlarge their residence; or install new heating/cooling equipment. The City of Brookings would like to remind residents to obtain the necessary licenses and permits before conducting business or starting those projects within the City limits of Brookings.
Business licenses are required to operate and conduct business within the City limits of Brookings. The annual fees are determined by location and number of employees. Business licenses may be obtained through the City Finance Department, please contact 541-469-1125 for further information.
Building permits are required to be obtained by contractors and homeowners when building within the City limits. Mechanical permits are required when installing or replacing residential and commercial heating and cooling equipment, including gas lines/stoves, wood stoves, heating inserts, HVAC, and/or mini split systems.
All permits are required to be obtained before construction or installation and may be obtained at Brookings City Hall, Building Department, 898 Elk Drive, Brookings. Building permit costs vary depending on the project size and typical residential mechanical permit are $84. Once permits are obtained the applicant is required to contact the Building Official to schedule the necessary inspections.
