[ARCHIVED] Red Flag Warning for Klondike Fire Increase Smoke in Brookings

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the Klondike Fire area for strong wind and low humidity through 11 a.m. tomorrow - gusting winds, combined with dry fuel and steep terrain create the potential for increased fire behavior. The weather will become hotter and dryer through the week resulting in the possibility of additional smoke in the surrounding areas.

Due to the shift of winds the Klondike Fire grew approximately 550 acres yesterday resulting in an unhealthy air quality range around midnight last night for residents of Brookings, Gold Beach and surrounding areas. Today air quality is in the ‘good’ range however residents southwest of the fire can expect continued smoke impacts throughout this week.

Key Statistics:
Acres: 147,040
Containment: 72 percent
