The parking lot behind the Central Building in downtown Brookings is now open to the public.
The City of Brookings has leased the property to provide additional public parking in the downtown area. The lot surface has been sealed, and striping and signs have been installed.
Parking in the lot is free. There are a total of 38 spaces.
Travel writers and City staff were among the first to use the new parking lot this week. “The City was hosting an event for visiting travel writers from around the country at Black Trumpet Bistro, and we arrived to find no available parking immediately adjacent to the restaurant,” said City Manager Gary Milliman. “That was actually good news because we like to see a high level of customer activity downtown. The Central Building parking lot was within easy walking distance.”
Milliman noted, “The Central Building parking lot is actually closer in distance to the Redwood Theater and many other downtown businesses than most of the parking spaces in the Fred Meyer parking lot to the store.”
