[ARCHIVED] How to Contribute to the Fire Relief Effort

Seeking a meaningful way to contribute to the Fire Relief effort?

Donations of food and water are accepted at the Brookings-Harbor Food Bank located at 539 Hemlock Street. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The Food Bank will also accept cash donations with which it will purchase fresh foods like meat, fruit, and vegetables. For more information, call 541-469-6988.

The Wild Rivers Community Foundation (WRCF) has set up two funds specifically for the Chetco Bar Fire, one called the ‘Victims of the Curry County Chetco Bar Fire’ and the other called ‘Chetco Bar Fire Animal Fund.’ WRCF can accept monetary donations online at www.hafoundation.org/Affiliates-Region/Wild-Rivers-Community-Foundation. For more information, call 707-442-2993.

The needs of the visiting firefighters are being met through federal resources. Fire Incident Command recommends contributing to your local fire department as a way of ‘paying it forward.’ The hundreds of firefighters who have responded here have been able to do so because of support from their home communities. As a way to be prepared to reciprocate, contributing to the Brookings Fire Department is the best way to say ‘thank you.’

In Brookings, people can donate by writing a check to the City with a note specifying it go to the Fire Department or a check can be made directly to the Brookings Volunteer Fire Association.
