[ARCHIVED] Storm Drain Project to Begin

Construction is set to begin August 15 on a project to resolve a recurring flooding problem on Railroad at Fifth Street and on Henry Lane.

The City of Brookings has contracted with McLennan Excavating, Inc. to install a new 60 inch storm drain pipe from the vicinity of the vacant lot in back of McDonald’s restaurant to the old log pond just west of Railroad at Fifth Street.

“We have had street flooding problems in this area during storms repeatedly over the last several years,” City Manager Gary Milliman noted.  “The high water has come close to flooding several buildings.”

The $515,285.00 project will replace, redirect and upsize an existing storm drain line serving this area.  Six hundred and fifty-five lineal feet of new pipe will be installed.

There will be periodic traffic control in the vicinity of the construction for several weeks.
