Construction has started on a storm drain improvement project along Old County Road in Brookings.
“This winter, several small sink holes developed in the vicinity of the storm drain on the east side of Old County Road in the driveway approach to the Pacific Highland Terrace condominiums,” Public Works & Development Services Director Paul Stevens reported.
“Additionally, beginning at the top of the hill, the floor of the open ditch portion of the storm water system has eroded at an accelerated rate because of high rain volumes, which has resulted in deepening the ditch,” Stevens continued.
The current work replaces about 110 lineal feet of failing 24-inch diameter galvanized metal pipe and approximately 110 feet of open ditch with 30-inch diameter polyethylene pipe and adds two catch basins. The project begins slightly downhill from the Catholic Church parking lot entrance and continues to the southern property line of 720 Old County Road.
The estimated cost of the project is $45,000.
