The City of Brookings would like to remind residents and visitors that the shops and restaurants on Railroad Street are still open for business even as work continues on the water and sewer main replacement and expansion project.
Travel eastbound on Railroad Street continues with minor delays. Although the westbound travel lane is closed, with some careful pre-planning, it is still possible to access all your favorite shops and restaurants located within or near the construction zone. Brookings will also be considering some special temporary parking arrangements in the area to alleviate parking shortages.
Installation of the 18-inch sewer line on Railroad Street is scheduled for completion the week of May 15. The Public Works Department is coordinating with the Harbor Sanitary District (HSD) on tying the HSD force main into new sewer line.
Water line installation work is scheduled to start May 22 at which time traffic control will shift over and block the east bound traffic lane. The plan continues to keep east bound traffic on Railroad and west bound traffic on Hemlock Street as currently detoured for the sewer line project.
The contractor will remove all traffic control on Friday May 26 for the Azalea Festival weekend event and parade detour route.
The City of Brookings asks that residents and visitors please pardon our mess as we strive to complete this much needed improvement and also encourages everyone to patronize these shops which depend on your continued support.
