[ARCHIVED] Next Downtown Planning Meeting Set

The next Downtown Planning workshop is scheduled for Thursday, February 9. The workshop will start at 6:30 p.m. at the Brookings Emergency Operations Center, located adjacent to the City Hall at 898 Elk Drive.

The focus of the community workshop will be to review possible changes to the downtown plan based upon public comments received at the January meeting.

“There was a lively discussion at the January meeting,” City Manager Gary Milliman said. “We received many great suggestions, giving us a lot to consider.”

City staff will also seek input on potential changes in sign regulations in an effort to improve way-finding through town.

In addition, staff will present information on how downtown businesses can add to their marketing effort by securing a designation as a “bike friendly business.”

“Having bike friendly businesses enhances bike tourism for the entire city,” Milliman said. “Bicycling tourists add over $400 million to Oregon’s economy, and this market is crucial to increasing tourism revenues.”

Business owners and community members are invited and encouraged to attend.
