[ARCHIVED] Azalea Park Improvement to Break Ground

Phase Two of the Azalea Park four-phase improvement project will break ground on Monday, August 22 at 3:00 p.m. This phase will include the reconfiguration of Field 1 to allow for the addition of a dedicated multi-use field (soccer, football, lacrosse, ultimate Frisbee, etc.)

This phase of the project also includes perimeter fencing and a new dugout and backstop for Field 1.

The full scope of the four-phase project has been developed to stretch out over a four-year period and when completed, will accommodate a variety of adult and youth recreation opportunities and enhance the City’s ability to host athletic tournaments year-round.

“A facility like this will set us apart,” said Parks Supervisor Tony Baron. “Along with our great climate, these fields will allow us to host multi-sport athletic tournaments for the South Oregon and Northern California Coast region every season of the year.”

Oregon Parks and Recreation Department awarded the City of Brookings a $212,000 grant to fund the project.

Phase One which includes the construction of a restroom/concession building, a play structure, dugouts, fencing and a backstop for Field 2 as well as connecting ADA ramps and pathways is currently under construction.

Phase Three of the project will include the preparation and installation of an all-weather turf system on all three fields. The final phase of the project will include paved parking lots and lighting for playing field and parking lots.
