At the June 27 Brookings City Council meeting, Council voted unanimously to add an exemption to park operating hours specific to the Mill Beach Access.
Desiring to allow families to have gatherings and bonfires on Mill Beach after dark, Council decided to extend the open hours of the Mill Beach Access to one half hour before sunrise until midnight daily.
“Mill Beach is such an asset for the City. I have so many great memories of family time spent there,” said Mayor Ron Hedenskog. “We want to make sure that families have as much access to it as possible.”
With the new hours, visitors to the beach will be able to park their vehicles in the Access parking lot until midnight each night.
Visitors to the beach are reminded that the Access is not well lit, so flashlights or lanterns should be used when utilizing the parking area after dark.
