In an ongoing effort to improve wastewater treatment efficiency, the City of Brookings has awarded a contract to Tidewater Contractors Inc. to relocate a sewer main on Pacific Avenue.
Funded through the System Replacement Fee that is collected on monthly water/sewer bills, the nearly $49,000 project will reduce inflow and infiltration issues that exist due to the poor condition of the current sewer main.
Made of PVC, the new sewer main has a longer useful life expectancy and is designed to carry flow to the treatment plant without dilution thus reducing the total amount of volume being treated and improving the overall efficiency of the treatment.
Work will begin on June 1 and is expected to be complete by July 30. Traffic patterns will be maintained, but some delays may occur.
