To better protect the environment, reduce energy usage and provide more efficient wastewater treatment, the City of Brookings is replacing two aging blowers at its wastewater treatment plant.
The upgraded blowers will enable operators to adjust air output according to need, while still maintaining compliance with strictly regulated Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) standards regarding discharge levels.
“The amount of air necessary in the treatment process can vary depending on many factors” said Treatment Supervisor Raymond Page. “The old blowers were labor intensive and the results were not consistent.
Pacific Excavation of Eugene Oregon was awarded a contract in the amount of $169,000 and is scheduled to start the work this month. Systems Replacement Fee (SRF) funds, a sub-category of Systems Development Fees assessed and collected when building permits are issued for new construction projects, will be used to finance the project.
