[ARCHIVED] City to Regulate Solicitation

City crews will soon install new signs at the intersection of 5th Street and Chetco Avenue as well as at the main entrance to the Fred Meyer parking lot. The signs will advise motorists that it is now illegal to transfer items (cash, food, etc.) from their vehicles to pedestrians or other vehicles, unless they are legally parked.

“This is an effort to reduce distractions at the busiest intersection in town” said Public Works Director LauraLee Snook. “Proximity of the intersection to the Fred Meyer and Taco Bell entrances makes for a lot of moving parts. Any distractions that we can eliminate will improve safety for vehicles and pedestrians.”

The subject of “prohibited transfer” was a topic of discussion at several Council workshops and meetings earlier in the year and was approved by ordinance at the March 28th Council Meeting.
