The City of Brookings is seeking funding through the National Disaster Resilience Competition (NDRC) for an alternative water source project that would benefit both residents of the City and the Harbor Water District.
The project would include construction of an intertie between the City and Harbor Water systems that could be activated in the event of an emergency, such as salt water intrusion or a major fire. This would be a directional-bored pipeline under the Chetco River.
In order to move forward with the application and include the intertie, we will need a Partnership Agreement between the State of Oregon, the City and the Harbor Water District no later than September 4, 2015.
The City is seeking community support for this project.
Letters and/or emails should be directed to City Manager Gary Milliman at Brookings City Hall, 898 Elk Drive, gmilliman@brookings.or.us
Harbor area residents should contact the Harbor Water District to express support for the project.
