At the recent June 30th Community Recreation Center Task Force meeting, the Task Force reviewed the final results of the YMCA Community Recreation Needs Assessment Survey conducted in May. The survey garnered over four hundred responses and confirmed a strong desire from the community to prioritize development of recreational programming for all ages.
It also revealed strong support for the YMCA. The Task Force was very pleased with the thoughtful comments and participation. “For this to happen in Brookings, we need to hear even more support for it as we move forward,” Recreation Center Task Force Co-Chair Juliane Leighton said. The Task Force voted to collaborate with the YMCA to further evaluate the feasibility and community support for a year round recreation and aquatic center and will meet again on July 22nd to discuss the next steps in the process. Once this information is gathered, it will be presented to the community in order to gain additional feedback.
