Water being distributed to City of Brookings customers is safe to drink, City Manager Gary Milliman said today in response to reports of “bad water” in the Brookings area.
“We have received a number of inquiries and reports of poor water quality today from Harbor area residents,” Milliman said. “Harbor area residents are served by a separate water district and the water they are receiving is not from Brookings.”
Milliman said City staff has received reports of possible salt water intrusion into the Harbor Water intake located on the Chetco River. “This is something we cannot confirm. The City water treatment staff is assisting with testing,” Milliman said.
All questions about water quality in the Harbor area…south of the Chetco River…should be directed to the Harbor Water District office at (541) 469-3011.
The City’s water intake on the Chetco River is located about 1.5 miles upriver from the Harbor Water District intake. “We are monitoring water quality at the City facility, but have no problems at this time," Milliman said.
