[ARCHIVED] City Invites Public to Participate in Transportation System Plan Update

The public is invited to participate in the update of the City of Brookings Transportation System Plan (TSP) at an open house to be held Thursday, July 10, 2014, 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, in the Chetco Community Public Library Conference Room, 405 Alder Street.

The open house will begin with an introduction and slideshow presentation provided by Parametrix Engineering Planning and Environmental Sciences representatives. Parametrix is the firm hired by the City to perform the update based on their extensive experience developing TSPs that consider all modes of transportation, including bicycle and pedestrian, for cities with similar populations.

Interactive stations designed to aid in understanding the various aspects of the project will be set up around the room. Comment cards and surveys will be available for citizens to make suggestions, voice concerns, or ask questions. Topics can include anything from traffic signal concerns and sidewalk extension suggestions to ideas for new bike or hiking trails.

TSPs, which typically cover a 20 year period, provide guidance for a safe and efficient transportation system based on current and future uses of residents, businesses, and visitors; citizen input is vital to the process of developing a comprehensive TSP for Brookings.

The update is being funded with a $225,000 Transportation Growth Management Grant, provided by the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development and the Oregon Department of Transportation.

For more information, contact Planning Manager Donna Colby-Hanks (541) 469-1137, dcolbyhanks@brookings.or.us.
