[ARCHIVED] Fifth Street Repaving Slated

Repaving of Fifth Street between Chetco Avenue and Easy Street is set to begin in late June or early July.

Part of the work will be performed at night to avoid major traffic disruptions on Fifth Street. This may be noisy for nearby residents, but may also be better than closing the street for several days. Dates and times of the construction work and partial road closures will be announced as the project schedule is finalized.

The City has been preparing for the paving project for several weeks. Preparatory work has included reconstructing several driveways and wheelchair ramps to meet federal disability access standards.

A recent pavement management plan (PMP) prepared by Willdan Associates has identified alternate methods of street resurfacing and repair for some streets as opposed to the traditional method of complete reconstruction.

The City anticipates savings upwards of $100,000 on the paving cost alone by following PMP recommendations.
