[ARCHIVED] Brookings to proceed with street repairs

The City of Brookings has been working on several fronts to put together a comprehensive “road map” that will allow cost effective repair of infrastructure with a limited budget.

Completion and near completion of various master plans has a the City to move forward to pave 5th Street from Easy to Chetco Avenue this summer, and the east section of Hassett from Old County to Pioneer Road, later in the year.

The City’s overall budget for paving improvements is $250,000.00 for the year.

Master plans nearing completion will identify infrastructure needs for water, sewer and storm drain facilities.

Other aspects of the City’s “road map” include GIS mapping and the recent TV and smoke test inspections performed around the City to provide an “inside” view of sanitary and sewer storm piping. The information derived from this work is used to better understand existing infrastructure needs and identify properties that have existing deferred improvement agreements (DIA’s). DIA’s are recorded property encumbrances that require a property owner to pay for the portion of infrastructure to be installed on their roadway frontage.

To request a repair call Public Works Supervisor Richard Christensen at 541-469-1171.
