City Manager Gary Milliman was elected last week to serve as Vice Chair for the South West Area Commission on Transportation (SWACT), an 18-member commission which provides policy advice to the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) and makes recommendations on funding for a variety of transportation projects in the Curry, Coos and Douglas County area.
SWACT recently approved a four-year transportation system improvement plan for the three-county area that includes some $12 million in funding for improvements including reconstruction of Railroad Street in Brookings, the purchase of vehicles for Curry County Transit, a truck climbing lane on Highway 5 at Roberts Mountain in Douglas County, a transit station in Coos Bay and four other projects. This summer, SWACT will begin developing a transportation system improvement plan for the 2017-20 period.
Milliman has served in various transportation policy positions for much of his career.
