[ARCHIVED] City Announces Lateral Rebate Program - Sends Out Abatement Notices

The City Council adopted an incentive program to assist homeowners with the cost of abating storm water intrusion from private drains into the City’s sewer system at its February 24 meeting.

Smoke testing, used to identify defects and detect storm water intrusion into the sewer main system, was recently performed in the downtown/Railroad Street area. The City will be sending out abatement letters to those residents whose systems did not pass the smoke test.

The rebate program, effective March 26, 2014, will provide matching funds for replacement of laterals located within the right-of-way of a recorded easement. Sewer laterals without a recorded easement will continue to be the responsibility of the homeowner to repair, maintain and abate.

Any questions concerning this matter should be directed to Building Official LauraLee Snook at (541) 469-1131.
