Sidewalks are scheduled to be installed on Easy Street along the frontage of Kalmiopsis Elementary School during the summer recess. The project is part of ongoing efforts to improve pedestrian facilities along school routes.
The project, funded by the City and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), will install six-foot wide sidewalks and bicycle lanes on the north side of Easy Street between Fern Avenue and Pioneer Road, and on the south side of Easy between Fern and mid-way to Pioneer. The project will also include drainage improvements.
Grant funding, applied for by the City in 2010 through ODOT's Safe Routes to School Program in 2010, makes up $592,000 of the estimated $662,000 project cost.
The project is due to go out to bid on February 20 and will be managed by ODOT. Work is scheduled to begin June 16 and be completed by July 31.
