The first "Brookings Bear" being produced by Evergreen Bank will soon be sporting Brookings Harbor High School "Bruin" colors in preparation for its delivery to Brookings in the spring.

At the City's request, Evergreen Bank placed five bear statues in downtown Brookings this past summer and during the course of discussions, generously agreed to provide the City at least five unique Brookings Bears over the course of the next five years. The Bruin Bear will be the first.

Brookings City Council, City staff and Public Art Committee members were given a preview of the Bruin Bear this week when they visited the "Bear Hotel" in Grants Pass to discuss the "Bears in Brookings" project with Evergreen Bank representatives. The visit included meeting the artists working on the bears and a demonstration of the bear-making process.

The bears will visit the Bear Hotel in Grants Pass each year for maintenance; the five bears that are in Brookings now will picked up by the bank in the spring and returned, along with the first Brookings Bear, later in in the season.
