A public restroom building was installed today at the Mill Beach public access in Brookings.
The access is located at the end of Macklyn Cove Drive, which extends from Mill Beach Road to the beach. The restroom is expected to be operational by December 1.
The Mill Beach access has been a commonly used beach access for local residents and visitors for many decades but due to the condition of the access, previous use had been limited four-wheelers and adventurous hikers. Improvements are expected to promote greater public use of the beach.
The restroom installation follows work site grading and installation of utility service lines accomplished by City Public Works employees as well as construction of a retaining wall, completed with volunteer assistance. Further improvements will include the addition of a log barrier between the beach parking lot and the beach itself, picnic benches, and paving of the parking lot and access road.
Parking beachside will be limited and able-bodied visitors are encouraged to use the parking area adjacent to the sewer lift station on Mill Beach Drive for parking and then walk down to the beach from there.
