Repairs will be undertaken throughout the City on both storm and sewer systems beginning Monday, October 7, 2013. The project is part of the City’s ongoing effort to keep all systems functioning efficiently with the long term goal of cost savings through maintenance rather than replacement.
The work will be done as "point repairs" which allows repair of the pipes within the City’s systems without digging up streets, thereby saving the City money and reducing inconvenience to its citizens.
Repairs will cut down on the infiltration of ground water into the storm and sewer systems. Additional water introduced into the systems results in unnecessary treatment of groundwater at the sewer plant, which places an additional burden on the storm water system.
The majority of the work will be on Railroad Street and side streets west of Railroad. Disruption of traffic should be minimal and the work is scheduled to be completed by the end of November.
