[ARCHIVED] Bud Cross Ball Fields Closed

Bud Cross Park ball fields in Brookings will be closed and unavailable for play for about 45 days beginning August 16 as the old backstops are being replaced. The backstops have been in service for nearly 30 years and have been identified as a safety hazard.

The replacement is being funded through a grant from the West Family Foundation, the City's capital project fund, and donations from the Smith River Rancheria and Brookings Harbor Little League.

“Parents are urged to keep children away from the ball fields while this work is being completed,” said Parks and Technical Services Supervisor Tony Baron.

Redevelopment of Bud Cross Park was included in the 2011 Parks and Recreation Commission Master Plan. Key elements in the plan included improving accessibility, providing a group picnic area, improved sports field conditions, erosion control, drainage improvements and increased security.

“These repairs will insure the safety and enjoyment of this park," Baron said. "We regret any inconvenience"
