[ARCHIVED] Bud Cross Ball fields Closed

Bud Cross Park ball fields in Brookings will be closed and unavailable for play for about 45 days beginning August 16th as the old backstops are being replaced.

In 2011 the Parks and Recreation Commission developed a Master Plan for the redevelopment of Bud Cross Park and key elements included improving accessibility, providing a group picnic area, erosion control and drainage improvements, increased security and improved sports field conditions.

The ball field backstops were identified as a safety hazard and have been in service for nearly 30 years. Funding for replacement of the backstops is being provided by the West Family Foundation, community donations from Smith River Rancheria and Brookings Harbor Little League and the Capital Project Reserve Fund.

“Parents are urged to keep children away from the ball fields while this work is being completed,” said Parks and Technical Services Supervisor Tony Baron. “These repairs will insure safety and enjoyment of this park, we regret any inconvenience.”
