Members of the Brookings Tourism Promotion Advisory Committee (TPAC) are hoping that the availability of funds and the temperate climate in Brookings will encourage event planners to consider Brookings when seeking a venue for their late-fall and winter events.
Last week, TPAC met in a budgetary workshop session to determine how it would allot over $35 thousand in available Transient Occupancy Tax funds for special events and promotional activities.
In a unanimous vote, members chose to spend 60 percent of the funds on event assistance, 30 percent on advertising and 10 percent on capital needs.
Additionally, the group adopted a statement of goals which was to “increase overnight stays with emphasis on October through April.”
TPAC has opted to focus its available funding on winter events, so event planners are invited and encouraged to submit their event proposals now for this upcoming fall and winter.
